About Me

Hi, I'm Laurel!  Thank you for visiting my blog!  If you're here and you've taken the time to read some of my posts, you've probably figured out the obvious...I'm a wife and Mom, I love to sew, make quilts, and knit a little.  Here are some not-so-obvious things about me:

  • I am the youngest of 7 kids.
  • When I was little I wanted to be a veterinarian "when I grew up".
  • As a young adult, I dreamed of becoming a pastry chef.
  • I became an environmental engineer instead.
  • That was absolutely the right choice for me!
  • I gave up a fantastic job to stay home with my kids even though it wasn't "the plan".
  • That was the best choice I ever made!
  • I missed that job for quite a while...but then I learned to sew.
  • I yawn when I'm nervous.
  • I've never lived outside of NC.
  • I LOVE going camping and hiking and often think some of my happiest memories with my husband Mark were spent talking late into the night by a campfire or taking a hike in the woods with our dog, Dulcie.
  • I'm a perfectionist!
  • I played violin for most of my childhood until college.
  • Not much of a reader, but I force it for my own betterment.
  • I would like to be a morning person.
  • My dream vacation home is a little log cabin nestled in the woods by a river.
  • I'm fairly shy.
  • I express myself way better in writing.
  • "Sing All You Want" is a line from a song I was listening to just driving around one day.
  • It meant something big to me when I heard it, so I named my blog after it.

So, there you go...now you know some more about me.  I am SO very thankful you stopped by.  Comments make my day...so take a moment to say Hello!

  1. Hi Laurel,
I came across your blog when I googled Restabit. My family has stayed in many rentals at Litchfield Beach and I have wanted to stay at Restabit since I saw it last year while exploring. Well, this year we are staying there in a few weeks. I was thrilled to come across your old pictures and memories of it. I wish you and your family a happy vacation this year!

  2. That is so great!!! I don't know if you'll return to my blog and see this comment, but I was unable to reply to your comment by email. I love that you found my blog because of "Restabit". When I was little, it was so much more natural up at that end of the beach and there was a huge area of sand dunes that we all played on (imagine that?). The area was called Pirate's Cove and we played King of the Mountain on them. Anyway...North Litchfield is soooooo very special to my family and me. I hope you love Restabit too, but most of all enjoy your time there!

  3. Hi Laurel,

I found your blog today through a Pinterest post of your ArrowTail quilt. I keep finding more & more to look at & read and have so many tabs open across my computer screen that I might still be sitting here tonight!

Thank you for posting so many inspiring and fun things!

    Leslie (smalltowngirl64@yahoo.com)

  4. Hi Mommy I'm going to sew a mini QUILT with my scraps

  5. I came across your blog as I was looking for patterns to quilt. I just love your short introduction under your photo. Those are some fine goals for one to have. I, too, was privileged to be a stay-at-home mom for our four children. I went to college to be a teacher, but most of my teaching was for my own children and for others in my work with my church.

    1. Thank you! That means a lot! : ) It is certainly a privelege to stay home and raise my children - something I have to remind myself frequently! Good for you for using your teaching background other ways in your life. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog. I haven't been blogging much lately (too busy!), but your comments made me smile!

  6. I came across your blog while searching Pinterest for chevron quilts. I was the oldest of 8 children and became a nurse. But then I put that aside to be a stay at home mom for my 7 children. I started quilting after my twins were born. It has been a wonderful journey of learning and creativity. I too play violin but started as an adult and am not very good yet. I am not on facebook and I do not have a blog. I am on IG and Pinterest which is enough for me.
Thanks for sharing your Arrowtail quilt on-line. I am going to try it.
